Job Description
This role will work with the Executive Leadership Team to manage internal, cross-functional relationships and oversee significant third-party supplier and vendor relationships to ensure optimal performance of the outsourced transportation network for both International and Domestic Logistics, along with a private fleet for store deliveries. They will establish strategy, structure, processes, and systems capable of scaling to support the rapidly expanding national line haul operations. The Vice President of Transportation and Logistics is responsible for modeling company values, promoting the company culture, and ensuring an effective, deployable succession plan.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for strategic planning, direction and overall performance of the Transportation, Logistics and Parcel Operations
- Establish multi-year strategies that align with company-wide strategic and capital allocation priorities and initiatives
- Accountable for achieving and maintaining key transportation and logistics service metrics, including on-time delivery, order accuracy, transit time, and customer satisfaction, while driving continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain
- Lead team to execute against these plans, adjusting as market conditions change and evolve
- Communicate strategy, tactical priorities, and performance expectations across the organization and work collaboratively with leadership to ensure procedures are productively aligned with annual and long-term goals
- Partner with IT in defining requirements for the next generation of systems and technology to support strategic goals
- Lead cost/benefit analysis and risk assessments to evaluate the feasibility and profitability of potential external partnerships
- Identify safety measures through effective risk mitigation programs that focus on appropriate financial, operational, regulatory, and customer service risks
- Manage external partners strategically with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement, as well as operationally ensuring the partners’ adherence to contractual obligations, regulatory governance through SLAs, operational escalation procedures, and day-to-day operational engagement
- Hold self and teams responsible for measuring and reporting both operational and financial performance to drive enhanced individual and team performance
- Foster a safety culture to ensure the health and well-being of our AutoZoners and to reduce ORI/OSHA metrics
- Build and foster strong relationships with the Distribution Center Operations teams
- Delegate responsibilities between functional managers to achieve optimal operating results and continuous improvement
- Develop the budget, ensure adherence to the budget, and take corrective action as required.
- Lead performance improvement programs throughout the supply chain using overall leadership experience and play a key role in the implementation of continuous improvement techniques throughout the organization
- Direct efforts to improve profitability through cost reduction, cost avoidance, and process improvement/loss prevention
- Stays abreast of industry activities. Proactively seeks out benchmarking data through networking and formal sources to maintain awareness of our position in the market
- Adhere to legal, regulatory, and company compliance requirements
- As a leader, recruit and develop high performing talent to foster a results-oriented environment
- Provide clear leadership and direction, driving accountability and sustained business growth
- Communicate and engages team to inform the Company’s vision and goals
- Maintain a culture of diversity and inclusion across all levels
- Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Team of 3 – 5 direct reports plus indirect reports
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in in manufacturing, supply chain, or related field, or an equivalent extensive related experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of the role
- 15-20 years’ experience of overall experience in global supply chain, transportation, logistics, and/or sourcing, preferably in Retail industry
- Must have strong leadership and communication skills coupled with strong listening skills
- Experience representing organization to customers partners, and/or industry Business acumen, analytical skills, reliability, and sound judgment
- Experience with “Lean” philosophy and management tactics a plus
- An innovative mindset, with an ability to embrace change, respect differences of opinion, communicate openly and build consensus
- Consistent track record of leading partner relationships
- Ability to work cross-functionally to build and maintain an operational plan that aligns with the company’s short- and long-term strategic priorities and financial objectives
- Ability to understand and communicate insights from analysis and work collaboratively with colleagues to react to findings
- Ownership mentality and demonstrated ability to independently drive projects to completion, with high attention to detail
- Travel requirement 30%-40% -- DCs, stores, conferences
