About B&L Glass
B&L Glass is an established glass and glazing contractor serving commercial and residential customers throughout the North Bay.
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager for our commercial glazing division. This position reports to the General Manager and combines commercial construction estimating with hands-on project management: reviewing plans and specifications, preparing accurate and competitive estimates, developing proposals, and managing awarded projects through closeout.
Typical projects range from $20,000 to $1,000,000. This role will handle approximately 30+ bids per month and 20+ active projects at a time.
We are looking for a construction professional who understands how projects are estimated, awarded, coordinated, and executed. The ideal candidate is technically capable, organized, accountable, and comfortable taking ownership of projects while working collaboratively with our General Manager, field operations, purchasing, and project support team.
This is an opportunity for an experienced estimator or project manager to take on a well-rounded role with meaningful responsibility in an established and growing glazing company.
Estimating & Preconstruction
· Review architectural drawings, specifications, addenda, bid requirements, and contract conditions to identify commercial glazing scope and requirements.
· Perform accurate material and labor quantity takeoffs for commercial glass and glazing systems, including storefront, curtain wall, entrances, and interior glazing.
· Prepare detailed cost estimates incorporating materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and other project requirements.
· Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and supplier pricing.
· Identify scope gaps, drawing discrepancies, constructability concerns, and project risks before submitting bids.
· Prepare professional, competitive proposals with clearly defined inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.
· Coordinate with the General Manager on bid strategy, pricing, and project opportunities.
· Follow up on submitted proposals, respond to contractor questions, and assist with bid negotiations.
Project Management & Execution
· Manage awarded commercial glazing projects from contract award through final closeout.
· Review project scope, budgets, schedules, and contractual requirements before work begins.
· Coordinate submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, material procurement, and project documentation.
· Work closely with purchasing, field operations, and scheduling to ensure project readiness and timely execution.
· Prepare, price, submit, and track change orders.
· Coordinate with general contractors, architects, suppliers, and internal team members to resolve project issues.
· Prepare and deliver project closeout requirements, including warranties, as-built documentation when required, and other contract deliverables.
Project Financial Accountability
· Establish project budgets at award and track actual and committed costs against the estimate.
· Provide monthly cost-to-complete, WIP, and revenue forecast updates for assigned projects.
· Identify cost overruns, delays, and scope changes early and develop corrective action plans.
· Maintain accurate project records in BuildOps to support timely progress billing.
Customer & Contractor Relationships
· Build and maintain professional relationships with existing and prospective general contractors.
· Communicate proactively regarding bids, project schedules, changes, and outstanding issues.
· Participate in contractor meetings, project coordination calls, and jobsite visits as needed.
· Identify future project opportunities and help develop repeat business.
Required Qualifications
· Minimum 3 years of commercial construction experience, including at least 2 years of estimating.
· Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting commercial architectural drawings and specifications.
· Experience preparing construction estimates, material takeoffs, and detailed project proposals.
· Understanding of construction project sequencing, scheduling, procurement, and cost management.
· Working knowledge of submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project closeout requirements.
· Ability to manage multiple bids and active projects simultaneously.
· Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook, and with digital takeoff software such as Bluebeam.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
· Direct experience in commercial glass and glazing estimating and project management.
· Knowledge of storefront, curtain wall, commercial entrances, aluminum framing systems, interior glass, and specialty glazing, including systems from manufacturers such as Kawneer, YKK AP, Arcadia, Fleetwood & OldCastle.
· Experience estimating glazing labor, fabrication, and installation requirements.
· Experience with prevailing wage / public works projects and their bid and documentation requirements.
· Experience with BuildOps or similar estimating and project management platforms.
· Established relationships with general contractors or suppliers in the North Bay construction market.
What Success Looks Like
· Produce accurate, complete, and competitive estimates with clearly defined scope.
· Recognize estimating and project risks before they become costly problems.
· Take ownership of assigned projects from estimating through closeout.
· Provide reliable monthly cost-to-complete and revenue forecasts for assigned projects.
· Maintain effective communication with general contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
· Manage project costs, schedules, and documentation with minimal day-to-day supervision.
· Contribute to profitable project execution and long-term customer relationships.
We are seeking someone who understands both the estimating and execution sides of construction and takes personal accountability for the quality of their work. If you have strong commercial construction estimating experience, sound project management skills, and an interest in growing with an established glazing contractor, we encourage you to apply.
