Project Manager – Mechanical & Process Piping

Position Summary
Charter Mechanical is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful execution of mechanical and process piping projects from preconstruction through closeout. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical construction, excellent leadership abilities, and a proven track record of managing project budgets, schedules, resources, and client relationships.
This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of project delivery, including estimating support, procurement, contract administration, BIM/VDC coordination, cost control, scheduling, safety leadership, and customer satisfaction. Process piping experience is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage mechanical and process piping projects throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cost projections.
- Lead project planning efforts, resource allocation, and risk management activities.
- Prepare project proposals, estimates, and support preconstruction planning.
- Direct and participate in BIM/VDC coordination and clash resolution processes.
- Review drawings, specifications, P&IDs, isometrics, and contract documents to ensure project requirements are understood and executed.
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, fabrication teams, field personnel, and internal stakeholders.
- Manage procurement activities, including buyout of subcontractors, equipment, and materials.
- Track labor productivity and implement strategies to improve project performance.
- Monitor fabrication and installation progress to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
- Lead contract administration, documentation, and project reporting activities.
- Manage change orders, requests for information (RFIs), submittals, and project correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and quality standards.
- Foster strong customer relationships and identify opportunities for future business development.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance project execution and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering Management, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing mechanical construction and/or process piping projects.
- Experience within a mechanical contractor environment strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success managing project budgets, schedules, procurement, and project teams.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, process piping systems, and construction practices.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and isometric drawings.
- Experience with project management and scheduling software.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and build productive client relationships.
