The Fleet Manager is a company-wide leadership role responsible for the strategic oversight and operational management of the entire vehicle fleet across all branch locations. This position sets the direction for fleet maintenance, safety compliance, and performance enterprise-wide, and must be able to rapidly shift priorities and redirect resources to meet evolving company needs. The Fleet Manager serves as the central authority for all fleet-related decisions, ensuring alignment between day-to-day operations and broader organizational objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead companywide fleet strategy, establishing standards, priorities, and policies that apply uniformly across all branches and regions.
- Dynamically manage and reallocate maintenance resources, personnel, and work-in-progress to respond to shifting company priorities, urgent operational demands, or unplanned events.
- Supervise and coordinate fleet maintenance teams across all branch locations, providing clear direction, accountability, and support.
- Develop and enforce standardized maintenance procedures, inspection protocols, and safety standards enterprise-wide.
- Ensure all company vehicles remain in full compliance with DOT regulations, applicable federal/state laws, and internal safety requirements at all times.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, operations, and branch managers to align fleet strategy with company goals and anticipate future fleet needs.
- Leverage fleet management software and data analytics to monitor fleet performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement across the organization.
- Oversee companywide parts procurement and inventory management, optimizing supply chains and reducing downtime.
- Lead workforce development efforts: recruit, train, evaluate, and mentor fleet staff at all levels to build a high-performing, consistent team culture.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for fleet utilization, maintenance efficiency, cost per mile, and vehicle uptime.
- Respond to and coordinate resolution of major vehicle breakdowns, emergency repairs, and fleet disruptions with urgency and authority.
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready records of all maintenance activities, inspections, incidents, and compliance documentation.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Fleet Management, Automotive Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- 5+ years of progressive fleet management experience, with a minimum of 3 years overseeing fleet operations at a multi-location or enterprise level.
- Demonstrated experience shifting priorities and managing multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, operationally driven environment.
- Deep knowledge of diesel and gasoline vehicle maintenance, DOT regulations, and fleet safety compliance requirements.
- Proven track record of managing and developing teams across geographically dispersed locations.
- Proficiency with fleet management software platforms and data-driven decision-making tools.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing large maintenance budgets and vendor relationships.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly between branch locations as required.

- Advanced organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, multiple projects, and time-sensitive demands simultaneously.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to present fleet data, recommendations, and plans clearly to senior leadership and operational staff alike.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret fleet performance data, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement process improvements.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices for commercial fleet operations.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate, detailed records and generating reports for internal and compliance purposes.
