Position Type: Temporary/On Call.
Overview: We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Cook 1 to join our culinary team at a disaster relief basecamp. The Cook 1 will assist in the preparation and cooking of meals, ensuring that all food served meets our high standards of quality and safety. This role requires the ability to work efficiently under pressure and contribute to the smooth operation of the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals according to established recipes and menu plans.
- Ensure all food is prepared in a timely manner and meets quality and safety standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
- Assist in receiving and storing food supplies and ingredients properly.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure efficient and smooth operations.
- Adhere to portion control guidelines and minimize food waste.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of food service stations.
- Participate in daily kitchen cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a commercial kitchen or food service environment.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Flexibility to work long hours, including weekends and holidays, as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Culinary training or certification.
- Experience in disaster relief or remote site catering.
- ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification.
