Key Responsibilities
Are you an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) that has that ability to work effectively with medical staff, officers,
and individuals who are incarcerated at the Utah State Correctional Facility? The Division of Correctional Health
Services is seeking to hire a certified Emergency Medical Technician.
Please note: An offer of employment will be contingent on the applicant successfully passing a DHHS background check
and pre-employment drug testing, and a Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) background screening.
Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:
- Provide emergency medical care to the inmate population at USCF.
- Administer medications as ordered by a CHS medical or psychiatric provider.
- Assist the Registered Nurse in the assessment of patients requesting healthcare services.
- Complete crisis evaluations for patients experiencing mental health emergencies.
- Administers medications consistent with CHS policies and procedures.
- Performs physical assessments of patients, and refers patients requiring further evaluation or treatment to a
- registered nurse, physician or other health care professional.
- Maintains emergency kits; checks for missing and/or outdated supplies and restocks them as necessary; restocks
medical equipment and replenishes first-aid equipment and supplies in treatment area. A variety of treatments
including, but not limited to, diabetic care, obtaining vital signs, EKG's, blood draws, wound care, and dressing
changes.
- Receives information from referent to determine priority and assess client's needs for services.
- Ensures that there is an adequate supply of materials available.
- Prepares and/or processes documents; reviews for accuracy and completeness; updates information and/or
evaluates against policy; compares elements for consistency or logical relationships, etc.
- Orders, receives, inspects, and stores equipment, merchandise, commodities, materials, and/or supplies.
Qualifications
Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:
- Current, unrestricted certification as Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Utah.
- Have the ability to work well with medical staff, officers, and individuals who are incarcerated.
Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications:
- BLS and ACLS certifications
