What You Will Be Doing
The Alaska Department of Public Safety (DPS), Commissioner's Office, Office of Tribal Affairs is seeking a Program Coordinator I to support tribal liaison initiatives and strengthen relationships with Alaska Native tribes, communities and organizations. This position serves as an advisor to the Commissioner's Office, promoting meaningful consultation and collaboration with tribal communities statewide. Responsibilities include planning and implementing program initiatives, assisting with Native cultural awareness training, and advancing government-to-government relations to enhance cultural competency and program effectiveness.

The mission of the Division of Alaska State Troopers (AST) is to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. Within the Department of Public Safety’s Commissioner’s Office, the Office of Tribal Affairs, the Tribal Liaison works in partnership with Alaska Native tribes, tribal organizations, and communities to enhance public safety and advise the Commissioner’s Office. This position strengthens core mission components by responding to citizen concerns, supporting current and relevant training for law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, and improving communication and collaboration with Alaska Native communities.

The Working Conditions You Can Expect
This position works from the Office of Tribal Affairs, Commissioner's office located in the DPS Headquarters building on Tudor Road in Anchorage. The location has a stunning view of the Chugach mountains, is close to biking trails and has easy, accessible parking. The DPS headquarters building has over 150 employees which allows ample opportunity to develop professional relationships. The position requires an ability to thrive with a high degree of independence within a team environment which is supportive, professional, and friendly. A hybrid telework agreement may be available after a probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

Background Check
This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT
The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
