Job Description
General Functions:
Performs highly advanced professional engineering work and provides supervision for one or more engineering functions of a specialized nature. This is highly advanced professional, administrative and supervisory engineering work. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for directing specific projects and programs and performing other comparable field and/or office engineering work. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the designated supervisor.
Representative Duties/Assignments:
¿ Oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the Maintenance Units and other division sections as assigned, for the maintenance and retrofit of roadways, bridges and secondary drainage infrastructure.
¿ Identify contractual needs and initiate contract services for roads, bridges and secondary drainage maintenance work. Prepare contract specifications, bid documents, and work with the Procurement Division in determining the best solicitation method to use.
¿ Supervise the planning, development, programming, and implementation of projects and work assignments.
¿ Initiate and track road and secondary drainage retrofit projects, while monitoring Capital Improvements Project (CIP) and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) budgets.
¿ Monitor performance measures and perform cost-effectiveness analyses.
¿ Participate in short-term and long-range planning development for the Division's CIP and O&M future year budgets.
¿ Conduct research and field evaluations for resolution of roads and secondary drainage maintenance issues and response to citizen¿s inquiries. Be a liaison with the Commissioners' and Mayor' Offices for inquiries.
¿ Monitor staff work performance, and handle corrective actions as needed.
¿ Coordinate emergency response and hurricane preparedness activities.
¿ Performs Other Related Duties As Required
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or closely related field and eight years of experience in design/construction and/or maintenance of roadways and drainage facilities. A Master's degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Licensed by the Florida State Board of Professional Engineers as a professional engineer.
Preferences:
¿ Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point).
¿ Knowledge of FDOT Standards for Roadway and Bridge construction and maintenance
¿ Ability to work independently with minimal direction and oversight. Possess the ability to organize, schedule, and prioritize assignments, and work on concurrent project assignments simultaneously.
¿ Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
