ABOUT OPTIGRID: OptiGrid is an energy technology company accelerating fleet electrification with battery-integrated DC fast charging solutions. Our modular solution combines charging, energy storage, and grid management to eliminate costly infrastructure upgrades and cut deployment timelines from years to weeks. We're growing rapidly and need people who move quickly, think creatively, and find solutions to tough problems. If you want to make a real impact helping fleets go electric, we'd love to hear from you.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a Manufacturing Engineer, PCBA DfM, you will serve as the technical bridge between OptiGrid’s engineering team and contract manufacturers to enable reliable, cost-effective mass production of custom printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). You will establish PCBA design rules, manufacturing standards, and DfM documentation; perform manufacturability reviews and DfM analysis; and drive improvements to cost, quality, and throughput. This role is critical to scaling OptiGrid’s proprietary power electronics products by ensuring designs are optimized for SMT and PCB fabrication processes and that suppliers have clear, accurate technical documentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as a liaison between OptiGrid’s engineering team and Contract Manufacturing (CM), ensuring clear communication and technical documentation between both organizations.
- Set up design rules and manufacturing processes for printed circuit board assemblies; create standards and perform DfM analysis on custom PCBAs.
- Own Design for Manufacturing processes and documentation to optimize PCBAs for manufacturing.
- Review custom PCBA designs and assembly processes for manufacturability; work with CMs on DfM feedback to ensure designs meet cost and quality targets.
- Work with external vendors and the in-house procurement team to enable mass production, improve process efficiency and quality, and support the quoting process.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience performing DfM for PCB and PCBA (DFA/DFT is an asset).
- Strong understanding of PCBA design rules and PCB manufacturing processes, including SMT, reflow, conformal coating, etc.
- Experience with electronics and power circuit board designs (designed and built at least one board using Altium or similar tools).
- Proven ability to work independently under high pressure and be comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of industry specifications and standards for PCBA designs for power electronics applications
- Experience with the design and manufacturing of analog/digital electronics.
- Experience with new product development and fast prototyping processes.
- Previous experience with automotive applications, battery chargers, grid-interactive inverters, and familiarity with agency certification processes (UL, CSA, IEC, FCC, etc.).
