Position Overview:
The Director of Supply Chain & Vendor Management is responsible for the strategy, execution, and performance of all external sourcing and contract manufacturing for a ~$40 million annual revenue software and hardware technology company. This role owns supplier relationships across domestic and overseas vendors for components and finished goods, with full accountability for quality, cost, delivery, risk, and inventory efficiency.
The Director partners closely with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Finance to ensure externally manufactured products meet design intent, quality specifications, delivery commitments, margin objectives, and working capital targets. This position serves as the senior owner of contract manufacturer performance and supplier governance, including on-site evaluations, performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing & Supplier Strategy
- Develop and execute global sourcing strategies aligned with growth, margin, and risk objectives
- Lead supplier selection, negotiation, contracting, and performance management
- Establish supplier segmentation and long-term partnership frameworks
Contract Manufacturer & Supplier Governance
- Own executive-level supplier relationships and performance reviews
- Drive accountability for quality, delivery, cost, and continuous improvement
- Oversee supplier readiness for new product introductions
Quality & Operational Excellence
- Ensure suppliers meet technical, manufacturing, and quality standards
- Lead corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) and champion “quality at the source”
- Conduct and oversee domestic and international supplier audits and development plans
Inventory & Working Capital Optimization
- Align sourcing and inventory strategy with cash flow and service level goals
- Improve inventory turns, reduce excess/obsolete exposure, and optimize landed cost
- Support forecasting, demand planning, and S&OP processes
- Supervise purchasing function and ensure alignment with working capital goals
Risk & Business Continuity
- Mitigate supply risks including overseas exposure, single sourcing, and capacity constraints
- Develop contingency and dual-sourcing strategies
Team & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Build and lead the supply chain and vendor management function
- Establish scalable processes and performance expectations
- Serve as a key operations leader, driving margin and cash flow impact
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Required:
- 10+ years in supply chain, sourcing, or external manufacturing leadership
- Experience managing overseas suppliers and contract manufacturers
- Strong background in supplier quality, manufacturing processes, and inventory management
- Proven cross-functional executive collaboration
- Ability to travel 20–30%
Preferred:
- Mid-market manufacturing experience ($10M–$100M revenue)
- Experience with electronic and plastic molded components
- Familiarity with ISO or formal quality systems
