We are seeking a Senior Manager, Essential Services, to join our team in Detroit, Michigan. In this role, you will lead the strategies driving the Philanthropy’s investments and partnerships in Fresh Food Access, Disaster Response, and Building Together, an enterprise-wide initiative intended to build engagement and resilience in communities globally.
The Senior Manager will ensure that current and future programs, initiatives, and commitments are impactful and well executed.
You’ll Have…
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Non-Profit
- Management, Communications, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- 3+ years working in a corporate environment with a focus on community impact or CSR.
- 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- 5+ years of program management experience, specifically coordinating implementation across different organizations.
- 3+ years of experience managing direct reports.
- 2+ years of budget management experience with exceptional attention to financial detail.
- 2+ years conducting research and data analysis to inform strategic decisions.
Even Better, If You Have…
- Proven leadership in Social Services, food security, or disaster relief.
- 3+ years of experience working within non-profit organizations or community engagement initiatives.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent Ford at external events.

This position is at leadership level 5 and ranges from $138,240 to $ 261,720.

The Senior Manager, Essential Services, will report to the Director of Social Mobility and manage a small team to develop and implement effective strategies that leverage the capabilities of the enterprise to increase fresh food access, expand our communities’ ability to respond to natural disasters and support the philanthropy’s partnerships with cultural institutions and advocacy organizations.
- Strategically developing and providing general oversight for Essential Services initiatives for the Ford Philanthropy, with a particular focus in 2 areas: Mobile Fresh Food Access and Disaster Preparedness, Response and Recovery
- Manage a community grantee portfolio, including an annual grantmaking process, and serve as a primary liaison between Essential Service grantees and Ford Philanthropy.
- Engaging teams and organizations within Ford to leverage their capabilities, interest, and commitment to the community for the purpose of increasing and amplifying the Philanthropy’s impact goals
- Supporting a community of practice comprised of grantees and community partners committed to increasing access to Fresh Food in priority locations globally
- Managing direct reports on the essential services team, providing leadership development/coaching to salaried team members, and oversight of contract workers
- Maintain positive relationships with Ford Philanthropy’s external partners that specialize in diversity, equity, and inclusion through a focus on employee and community engagement
- Represent Ford in an effective manner, including providing remarks at external events when needed
- Be knowledgeable and understand project confidentiality to protect sensitive information and internal/external relationships.
