The County of Volusia is seeking a Materials Coordinator for the Fire Rescue Logistics Team. This position is located in Orange City, Florida, and will be responsible for working on procurement, monitoring, and distribution of materials, tools and supplies. Additionally, this position will help coordinate and monitor projects which may include maintenance and improvements to Fire Rescue/Emergency Services facilities. This position maintains various inventories electronically, therefore strong computer skills, to include excel are required. This position works with internal and external customer’s therefore excellent customer service skills and strong communication abilities are a must!
- Note: This position is mission critical and applicants must be willing to work on-call, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

- Coordinates with vendors who contract to perform maintenance work for the County. Inspects work in progress and approves payments upon completion.
- Researches with vendors and suppliers best price and best quality of supplies and equipment.
- Subject to on-call status after hours, weekends and holidays as needed.
- Operates a County vehicle.
- Identifies need for changes in supplies and equipment for better price and quality.
- Meets with vendors and suppliers as needed.
- Establishes and maintains automated inventory control.
- Responsible for capital items and verifies inventory for Finance.
- May supervise employees in stocking and dispensing supplies and equipment.
- Keeps inventory of all materials stored or stockpiled.
- Keeps records of all materials and supplies dispensed, to include electronic records.
- Locates materials as needed.
- Processes purchase orders.
- Prepares requisitions for materials including specifications and costs.
- Works with Purchasing on specifications of materials, tools, and supplies including rates and delivery schedules.
- Unloads and store materials upon delivery.
- Inspects materials upon delivery for quantity and quality.
- Rejects material if damaged or does not meet County's specifications.
- Dispenses materials and tools throughout the County.
- Maintains warehouse for tools, equipment and materials.
- Writes monthly reports on materials used.
- Provides monthly status report on maintenance and improvements of Fire Rescue/Emergency Services facilities.
- May be assigned to other locations based upon operational needs.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations when requested. Critical workforce employee who will be assigned to Fire Operations Center during declared emergencies
Graduation from high school or GED,
and four (4) years of experience in inventory control, preferably construction materials and tools. Depending upon position, experience in construction materials and tools or law enforcement supplies is desirable.
A comparable amount of education, training and experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Having met the minimum requirements, the preferred candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in logistics management or related field, 2 years previous experience working with Fire Rescue and EMS equipment and vendors, experience with Operative IQ data entry and management, experience with County purchasing procedures, the ability to enter and analyze data from an RMS system, have NIMS 100 certification and have at least two (2) years of experience working with Word and Excel.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
- Selected applicants will be required to demonstrate skills related to this position.

- Knowledge of materials, tools and supplies used in construction and maintenance projects.
- Ability to keep records of inventory and disbursements.
- Ability to compile monthly reports on materials.
- Ability to write specifications for requisitions and bids.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with vendors and staff.
- Ability to inspect shipments for quality and correct quantity.
- Ability to load, unload and stock warehouses.

Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend safety instructions, procedures, manuals, letters, specifications, billing invoices, and orders. Ability to perform shop math and general mathematical functions including percentages, discounts, ratio and proportions. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to write bid specifications, memos, financial statements, invoices, letters, and instructions.
Physical Demands: Light to medium work. Ability to see, talk, lift push (arm and leg), pull, carry (20 to 50 lbs.), stand, bend, walk, reach overhead, reach, climb, grasp, finger dexterity. Visual acuity (peripheral vision, depth perception).
Environmental Demands: Both indoor and outdoor work. Outside work may include inclement weather (rain, cold, humidity), water, odors, dust, fumes.
