Cañon City is proud of their rich heritage and many cultural and artistic venues. Located in the Southcentral portion of Colorado, it is a Home Rule Municipality and the county seat of Fremont County. It is a Council-Administrator form of government with the Administrator reporting directly to the City Council. Cañon City was founded in 1858 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush and was originally intended as a commercial center for mining in South Park and the upper Arkansas River. With a city population of over 16,700, Cañon City straddles the easterly flowing Arkansas River and is a popular tourist destination for whitewater rafting, sightseeing and rock climbing.
**ABOUT THE POSITION**

Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties for the Cañon City Police Department, to maintain public order, and to assist and protect the lives and property of Canon City residents, business owners, and visitors.

Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen and 21 years of age at the time of swearing in. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and must have a valid Colorado Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of hire, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Cañon City. Applicants must be a Certified Colorado Police Officer.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.
