The Vice President of IT & Information Security is a senior executive responsible for leading the organization’s technology strategy, IT operations, cybersecurity program, and information governance framework. This role ensures that technology enables business growth while maintaining a strong security posture, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience.
The VP of IT serves as a strategic advisor to the executive team balancing innovation, digital transformation, risk mitigation, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Technology Strategy (IT Function)
- Develop and execute the enterprise-wide technology roadmap aligned with business strategy.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives, automation, and modernization efforts.
- Oversee enterprise architecture, infrastructure, cloud strategy, and business applications.
- Drive innovation through emerging technologies (AI, analytics, automation, etc.).
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of IT systems.
- Manage vendor strategy, procurement, and technology partnerships.
- Establish IT governance, policies, and service delivery standards.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management (Security Function)
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive cybersecurity program covering prevention, detection, response, and recovery.
- Establish enterprise security governance and risk management frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, etc.).
- Lead threat management, vulnerability management, penetration testing, and security operations.
- Oversee incident response planning, crisis management, and disaster recovery.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and data protection laws.
- Report regularly to the executive team and Board on cyber risk posture.
- Manage third-party and supply chain security risk.
Data Governance & Privacy
- Establish policies for data classification, protection, retention, and lifecycle management.
- Partner with Legal and Compliance teams on privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA as applicable).
- Implement data security controls including encryption, identity management, and access governance.
- Ensure responsible AI governance and emerging technology risk controls.
Operational Excellence
- Lead IT service management (ITSM) and security operations (SOC).
- Implement KPIs and dashboards for uptime, security posture, service performance, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery testing.
- Promote automation to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build and lead high-performing IT and Security teams.
- Develop succession plans and leadership pipelines.
- Foster a culture of security awareness and operational accountability across the organization.
- Serve as executive sponsor for cross-functional technology initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Must be currently in a VP role with 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in IT and cybersecurity.
- Experience presenting to executive leadership and Boards.
- Proven track record managing enterprise IT infrastructure and cybersecurity programs.
- Experience leading digital transformation initiatives.
Preferred Certifications
- CISSP, CISM, CISA, or CRISC
- ITIL
- Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- PMP or equivalent
