The Director of Fleet Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing fleet maintenance, asset availability, and cost performance across U.S. and Canadian operations. This position drives fleet uptime, preventative maintenance compliance, warranty recovery, and vendor performance through centralized maintenance operations, analytics, and continuous improvement. The role partners closely with Operations, Finance, Safety, and Technology teams to ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide enterprise‑level leadership for fleet maintenance, repair, and regulatory compliance
- Lead and expand Centralized Maintenance Operations (CMO), including processes, metrics, and team development
- Ensure preventative maintenance compliance based on OEM standards, mileage, and time intervals
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, review invoices, and control maintenance and repair costs
- Oversee warranty identification, tracking, and recovery to maximize financial reimbursement
- Leverage fleet systems, telematics, and analytics to monitor performance, costs, downtime, and trends
- Develop and present KPIs, insights, and improvement strategies to executive leadership
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to align fleet strategy with business objectives and safety standards
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Transportation, or related field); Master’s preferred
- 8–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in fleet operations or maintenance within a large fleet environment
- Strong knowledge of Class 8 trucks, trailers, fleet maintenance practices, and preventative maintenance programs
- Proven success managing vendor networks, negotiating contracts, and driving cost reduction
- Experience with fleet management systems (FMS), telematics platforms, and data‑driven decision‑making
- Background in warranty management, recovery programs, and OEM/vendor negotiations preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
