Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Location: Southwest Chicago (Onsite Daily) 60638, Bedford Park
I am looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a team, supporting equipment design, fabrication, and plant-level engineering projects. This is a hands-on, onsite role working closely with fabrication, controls, electrical engineering, and production teams to design and modify mechanical systems supporting manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 3D models and fabrication drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
- Design mechanical assemblies, layouts, and detailed drawings using ANSI standards
- Support projects by gathering technical requirements including:
- Dimensions
- Equipment capabilities
- Pricing inputs
- Electrical and pneumatic needs
- Collaborate with fabrication shop, controls engineers, electrical engineers, and production supervision
- Revise and update drawings based on engineering notes, redlines, and field conditions
- Support multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Packaging Engineering or Associate’s degree in Drafting, Design, or Engineering
- 4+ years in Mechanical Design or similar engineering role
- Hands on professional experience with Autodesk Inventor (2023+ or equivalent), Autodesk AutoCAD (2023+ or equivalent) and Autodesk Vault
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365
- Exposure to ERP / MRP system
- Packaging or industrial machinery (wrapping, bagging, conveyors, robotic equipment)
- Manufacturing or plant equipment (material handling, pumps, extruders, heat exchangers)
- Experience working with machine shops (mills, lathes, welders, presses)
- Ability to take field measurements using standard tools
- Familiarity with food manufacturing environments, GMPs, and OSHA standards
