Sempergreen USA (part of Living Building Group) is seeking an experienced Department Manager to lead our Vertical Systems Operations team. This role oversees installations, maintenance, renovations, and team performance across multiple projects and client sites.
This is a leadership position for someone who combines hands-on technical knowledge, team management, and project accountability in a growing green infrastructure division.
What You’ll Do
Lead the Team
- Manage and supervise technicians and subcontractors supporting vertical systems, including but not limited to living green walls, irrigation systems, fall protection interfaces, solar-adjacent systems, and other emerging or specialty vertical infrastructure
- Train, mentor, and develop team members in a quality-focused, performance-driven environment
- Conduct performance reviews and support career growth
- Establish staffing plans and field coverage aligned with project demand and company growth
Oversee Projects
· Plan, manage, and execute vertical systems projects from pre-construction through closeout, including installations, maintenance, renovations, and special projects.
· Ensure high quality work is completed safely, on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
· Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external partners, including General Contractors, property managers, designers, engineers, and architects.
· Direct and oversee system components such as irrigation, structural interfaces, plant health, access systems, and system monitoring.
· Adapt project execution strategies as system offerings, technologies, or service scopes evolve.
Ensure Quality & Safety
- Maintain high quality standards across all projects
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, site-specific safety plans, building codes, and environmental standards
- Conduct site inspections and safety audits, and job hazard analyses
Client & Budget Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients
- Plan, track and communicate proactively regarding project status, risks, and solutions
- Develop and manage project budgets, labor forecasts and material procurement
- Complete post-project and post-season cost, performance and lessons-learned reviews
- Support scope adjustments, and operational input for proposals as needed
Drive Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, efficiency, and scalability
· Support the evaluation and integration of new technologies, service lines, and system types as SGS grows.
· Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures, training materials, and best practices.
· Stay current on industry trends related to green infrastructure, vertical systems, and building-integrated technologies.
What We’re Looking For
Required
- 5+ years of leadership or management experience in green infrastructure, construction, landscaping, or a related field
- Strong understanding of installation means and methods for green wall related trades, such as metal framing, irrigation systems and low-voltage wiring
- Strong daily leadership, organization, and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects at once
- Ability to work in the field and handle physical job requirements (lifting 60+ lbs, working outdoors, working at heights)
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Construction Management, or related field
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- CPR certification
- Project Management experience or certification
- Entrepreneurial, systems – minded, or growth-oriented mindset
Work Environment
- Full-time, salaried position
- Office-based with some local and regional travel
- Combination of office work, outdoor, and on-site work
- Typical work schedule ranges from 40–60 hours per week

Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
