Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. is hiring for an experienced ASPHALT PAVING SUPERINTENDENT in the Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, Yakima, WA area. The right person will be responsible for maintaining several paving crews as well as recruiting and training new team members. This is not an entry-level position. Previous experience as an asphalt Superintendent is required.
About Us: Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. opened in 1982 and is a privately held contracting company specializing in commercial paving and heavy highway construction. Started and based in Moses Lake, WA, the company has grown to include locations in Wenatchee, Benton City, Yakima, Coulee City, WA and Milton-Freewater, OR. Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. does projects throughout Eastern Washington, Northern Oregon, and Northern Idaho. Since 2005, Central Washington Asphalt has received the "First Place Quality Award" from the Washington State Department of Transportation 10 times for work completed on WSDOT projects.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Asphalt Paving industry is required
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Superintendent
- Ability to manage a crew to complete the installation of asphalt pavement, meeting all standards and specifications
- Scheduling of projects and crew members as required to complete projects on time and on budget
- Able to work with Project Managers/Estimators to determine needs, timing, and scheduling of projects.
- Must have a working knowledge of operating heavy equipment required by jobs such as pavers, rollers, backhoes, and other heavy construction equipment.
- Must be able to develop a good working relationship with other managers to ensure scheduling of crew, truck drivers, and asphalt plants to work effectively as a team.
- Coordinate with Quality Control Department to ensure work is completed at or above specifications.
- Solid understanding of the operation and maintenance of equipment is required.
- Maintaining a safe work environment for employees, subcontractors and others is a must.
Physical Demands
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Paving Foreman/Superintendent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job;
- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, stoop, bend and crouch as required by job duties.
- Ability to lift and carry, at least 30 pounds and at times, as much as 50 pounds.
- Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
- Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities, including the activities of other employees, contractors, operation of stationary and mobile equipment.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction site. Employee works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on a construction site such as oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt.
