Job Title: Disaster Long-Term Recovery Director
Organization: South Central Georgia COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster)
Reports to: Board of Directors of the SCGCOAD
Location: Second Harvest of South Georgia, Valdosta, GA
Position Summary
The Disaster Long-Term Recovery Director will lead and coordinate post-disaster recovery efforts in South Central Georgia, working closely with nonprofit, faith-based, governmental, and community partners. This position will oversee the mobilization of financial resources, materials, and volunteers; coordinate with case management teams to assess client needs; and manage logistics for volunteer housing, food, and operations. The Director will be the central point of contact for groups seeking to assist in the region’s recovery, ensuring an organized, efficient, and compassionate response that supports affected individuals and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Partnership & Coordination
- Serve as the primary liaison between South Central Georgia COAD, partner organizations, and incoming volunteer groups.
- Coordinate with local, state, and national agencies, nonprofits, and faith-based groups to align recovery efforts.
- Develop collaborative relationships with community stakeholders to ensure needs are met efficiently.
Fundraising & Resource Development
- Lead efforts to raise funds, secure material donations, and recruit volunteers to support long-term recovery projects.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, and granting agencies.
- Oversee financial stewardship of recovery funds in accordance with organizational policies.
Client Support & Case Management Coordination
- Work with case management teams to create comprehensive needs assessments for individuals and families impacted by disasters.
- Ensure recovery efforts address housing, food, transportation, and other critical needs.
Volunteer & Logistics Management
- Coordinate housing, meals, and supply needs for incoming volunteer groups.
- Develop and manage scheduling, worksite assignments, and logistical support for volunteer operations.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, contributions, and project outcomes.
Administration & Reporting
- Report regularly to the Board of Directors on progress, challenges, and successes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of recovery activities, resources distributed, and program impacts.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and safety protocols.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, emergency management, social services, or related field, OR equivalent experience in disaster recovery coordination.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, community engagement, or volunteer coordination.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic database management.
- Willingness to travel throughout South Central Georgia and work flexible hours as needed.
Preferred:
- Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations a plus.
- Familiarity with disaster recovery principles and COAD/VOAD networks.
- Bilingual abilities (especially Spanish) a plus.
