Job Overview

The NPI Project Manager leads new product introduction projects from early customer engagement and quotation support through manufacturability review, process development, and release to stable production. The role coordinates customer and cross-functional input early so requirements, risks, costs, and production needs are understood before launch. The position serves as the central project contact during NPI and works closely with Operations to ensure a complete, documented handoff for ongoing production.

Responsibilities and Duties

Engage with customers and internal teams to understand new opportunities, clarify product requirements, and define project scope, objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
Support quotations and feasibility reviews by coordinating technical input, manufacturing requirements, capacity, cost considerations, quality expectations, and schedule assumptions.
Serve as the primary customer contact during new product introduction (NPI), communicating requirements, project milestones, decisions, risks, and status updates.
Coordinate cross-functional reviews with Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to evaluate manufacturing feasibility and identify potential challenges.
Coordinate the review of engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, materials, supplier requirements, and inspection expectations.
Coordinate development of manufacturing and inspection processes, including process plans, tooling, CNC programming, supplier readiness, and required quality documentation.
Develop and maintain project schedules, track progress against cost, timing, and quality expectations, resolve issues, and provide regular updates to management.
Confirm customer approvals, supplier commitments, documentation, and internal readiness requirements are complete before coordinating a documented handoff to the Operations Project Manager and production teams.

Qualifications

Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably involving CNC machining or precision manufacturing.
Understanding of machining processes, manufacturing workflows, engineering drawings, and how machined parts are processed.
Experience supporting projects, manufacturing engineering, new product introduction, or customer-facing technical activities.
Comfortable communicating professionally with customers and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
Ability to understand technical requirements, evaluate manufacturing needs, and coordinate projects from initial inquiry through production launch.
Strong organizational, communication, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with project schedules, documentation, and standard computer applications.
Technical school, vocational training, or relevant manufacturing experience preferred.
PMP certification or formal project management training is a plus.
