Position Summary:

The Care Director provides strategic leadership, management, and oversight to the Care Department, which includes Community Resources, Funeral Support Services, Visitation Ministry, Health Support Services and Ministries & Outreach (M&O) Small Groups, along with oversight of the church's relationships with nationally recognized care programs. The role integrates compassionate, spiritually grounded care with organized, professional service delivery to meet the practical, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of the congregation and community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Funeral Support Services

● Provide pastoral care to families during times of critical illness, transition, and death, including an effective aftercare program to support grieving families in the weeks and months following a funeral.

● Oversee the scheduling, planning, and execution of all funeral services held at New Birth, and provide support for offsite funeral services.

● Ensure all bereavement communications, protocols, and processes are handled with compassion, clarity, and professionalism.

● Provide leadership, training, and development to the Bereavement Staff and Volunteer Teams, equipping both lay and clergy volunteers with the tools, resources, and pastoral guidance needed to serve grieving families effectively.

● Oversee the Next Chapter Widows and Widowers Ministry, ensuring ongoing care, connection, and support for those who have lost a spouse.

● Develop and implement updated standard operating procedures for Funeral Support Services.

Visitation Ministry

● Oversee the Visitation Ministry, including ministry to the incarcerated, hospital visits, rehabilitation center relationships, and visitation of the sick and shut-in.

● Recruit, train, and deploy visitation teams to ensure consistent, compassionate pastoral presence for members who are hospitalized, homebound, or incarcerated.

● Establish and maintain relationships with hospitals, correctional facilities, and rehabilitation centers to facilitate access and effective ministry.

● Develop tracking and follow-up processes so that visitation needs are identiﬁed, assigned, and fulﬁlled in a timely manner.

M & O Small Groups

● Provide oversight and direction to all M & O Small Groups, encompassing both Care Groups and Growth Groups.

○ Care Groups: Divorce Care*, Celebrate Recovery*, Grief Share*, Widows & Widowers, Adoption, Foster Care, Cancer Care, HIV/AIDS, and Correctional Care.

○ Growth Groups: Seniors Small Groups, Singles Small Groups, Marriage Small Groups, Veterans, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

● Recruit, train, evaluate, and support small group leaders, ensuring each group is well-led, spiritually healthy, and aligned with the church's mission, vision, and values.

● Coordinate educational workshops, training, seminars, and support groups promoting emotional health, wellness, and spiritual growth.

Nationally Recognized Programs

● Oversee and maintain the church's relationships with nationally recognized care programs (including but not limited to Divorce Care, Celebrate Recovery, and GriefShare), serving as the liaison between each organization and New Birth.

● Ensure all nationally afﬁliated programs remain in good standing, follow required curricula and guidelines, and maintain current licensing or registration where applicable.

Health Support Services, Cancer Care, & His Hands Deaf Ministry

● Oversee Health Support Services and ensure comprehensive support for holistic wellness and accessible services.

● Provide pastoral care for congregants and their families who are convalescent.

● Oversee Clinical Lay Staff by ensuring all licensure and certiﬁcations remain current and up to date.

● Oversee the Cancer Care ministry, providing spiritual, emotional, and practical support to individuals and families navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

● His Hands Deaf Ministry, ensuring the accessibility to all things pertaining to New Birth’s programing and worship experiences.

● Lead community programs and institute educational opportunities that bring awareness and solutions for targeted demographics.

● Maintain professional standards and implement best practices for care and crisis intervention services.

● Oversee His Hands Deaf Ministry, ensuring the Deaf and hard of hearing community is fully included in worship, discipleship, and care.

● Coordinate interpretation services, accessibility resources, and leadership development within the ministry.

Community Resources

● Oversee Community Resources, including benevolence assistance and disaster relief efforts, ensuring timely and compassionate response to individuals and families in need.

● Develop and manage clear processes, eligibility guidelines, and stewardship practices for benevolence funds and disaster relief resources.

● Establish and maintain partnerships with community agencies, relief organizations, and local resources to extend the church's capacity to serve.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

● Direct oversight and supervision of Community Resources, Funeral Support Services, Visitation Ministry, Health Support Services, Cancer Care, His Hands Deaf Ministry, and M&O Small Groups.

● Evaluate staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and small group leaders.

● Conduct assessments of processes.

● Provide bi-weekly reports with strategic plans and updates that highlight developments across all areas of the Care Department.

Qualiﬁcations and Requirements:

● Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, Counseling, Social Work, or related disciplines preferred; Bachelor's Degree with signiﬁcant relevant experience considered.

● Ministerial Ordination from a reputable denomination.

● Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a ministerial role providing pastoral care.

● Demonstrated experience leading multi-faceted ministries, volunteer teams, and small group networks.

● Demonstrated leadership, administrative, and organizational skills.

● Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

● Ability to integrate practical care and community resources with biblical and spiritual principles.

● Experience working with community agencies, hospitals, correctional facilities, or relief organizations is preferred.

● Participate in ongoing professional development and pastoral care training.

● Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership, staff, and volunteers.
