What you’ll do

As an R&D Engineer on the Powder Production team, focused on oxide development, you will play a key role in advancing Niron’s iron nitride–based magnet technology by developing, characterizing, and optimizing oxide precursor materials for powder manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with Research & Development, Scale-Up Engineering and Operations teams to support both experimental R&D and production readiness.

What We’re Looking For

Develop and optimize oxide precursor powders using wet chemical methods for iron nitride magnet production.
Design and execute experiments involving oxide synthesis, heat treatment, chemical processing, and microstructure development.
Perform materials characterization (XRD, TEM/SEM/EDS, particle size analysis, TGA/DSC, BET surface area, etc.) to evaluate powder quality and process behavior.
Analyze experimental data and translate insights into improved powder formulations and processing parameters.
Document experiments, results, and process changes; contribute to technical reports and presentations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transfer developed oxide processes into pilot-scale and production environments.
Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for powder-related technical issues.
Maintain safe laboratory and pilot processing practices aligned with company standards.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Nanomaterials, Chemical Engineering, Ceramics, Metallurgy, or related field.
Hands-on experience with oxide synthesis methods (e.g., precipitation, solvothermal, solid-state reactions, hydrothermal processing, sol–gel methods).
Strong understanding of phase equilibria, thermodynamics, and kinetics related to oxide materials.
Experience with materials characterization techniques such as BET, XRD, SEM/TEM/EDS, particle size analysis, and TGA/DSC.
Ability to design experiments, manage multiple concurrent projects, and document work rigorously.
Collaborative mindset and willingness to work in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Nice to Have

Experience in nanomaterials, magnetic materials, nitriding chemistry, or powder metallurgy.
Familiarity with scale-up or pilot production environments.
Background in statistical experiment design (DoE), machine learning techniques, or process modeling.
Experience with wet chemistry or chemical reactor systems

Our pay and benefits

Salary range: $100,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and skills
