We are seeking a hands-on Metallurgist / Metallurgical Engineer to support a growing metals manufacturing and processing operation. This role is ideal for a technical professional with strong experience in metallurgy, metal casting, alloy behavior, heat treatment, laboratory testing, and furnace operations. The position offers the opportunity to directly influence material performance, metallurgical processes, and product quality in a high-temperature, industrial environment.

Position Overview:

The Metallurgist will be responsible for evaluating materials, conducting metallurgical testing, overseeing laboratory activities, supporting casting operations (including casting metal into ingots), and providing technical guidance related to metal processing, alloy selection, and heat-treat or furnace operations. This is a hands-on, on-the-floor role working closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to support daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Review engineering drawings and new product plans to recommend materials, alloys, coatings, and treatments that meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
Conduct and oversee metallurgical testing, including microstructure evaluation, hardness testing, tensile testing, chemical analysis, and metallographic preparation.
Plan and execute laboratory workflows, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to metallurgical standards and safety protocols.
Support casting operations, including casting metals into ingots, evaluating melt quality, and assessing alloy and process variables.
Operate and oversee equipment such as electric furnaces, induction furnaces, heat-treat systems, metallographic preparation tools, and analytical instruments including Rigaku systems.
Perform root cause analysis and metallurgical failure investigations to assess fracture behavior, material defects, contamination, and heat-treat variances.
Evaluate raw materials, refractory linings, and high-temperature components to ensure compliance with specifications and durability standards.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality departments to resolve metallurgical issues and improve process control.
Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing metallurgical findings, test results, alloy performance, and process improvement recommendations.
Participate in continuous improvement, cost-reduction, and metallurgy-related initiatives to enhance product reliability and material performance.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
2–5 years of experience as a metallurgist, metallurgical engineer, materials engineer, or similar role within metals manufacturing, foundry operations, or industrial laboratory environments.
Strong understanding of metallurgy, alloy systems, casting processes, ingot casting, metal microstructures, heat treatment, and failure mechanisms.
Hands-on experience in metallurgical lab testing and interpreting metallurgical data.
Experience with electric furnaces, induction furnaces, melting operations, and high-temperature metal processing.
Exposure to or experience with refractory materials, furnace linings, or high-heat industrial equipment is desirable.
Ability to troubleshoot metallurgical problems, analyze data, and communicate technical information to cross-functional teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality technical reports.
