Process/Project Engineer - Direct Hire
Locations: Houston, TX • Denver, CO • Midland, TX • Dallas, TX
Travel: Up to 25%
This role is ideal for candidates with strong process engineering experience, proven project execution capability, and a background in midstream gas processing—not upstream wellhead production. The position requires an engineer who is active, collaborative, able to travel, and willing to mentor and teach others while working both in-office and in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to operations, including troubleshooting, debottlenecking, optimization, and maintenance projects. Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives, including PHAs, MOCs, audits, and action item closure.
- Execute projects from concept through commissioning, including writing scopes of work, assembling bid packages, evaluating proposals, managing contractors, and tracking project cost and schedule.
- Apply process engineering and project management fundamentals to support capital projects, facility upgrades, and plant reliability improvements.
- Perform process simulations and material & energy balances using ProMax and/or HYSYS for cryogenic gas plants, amine treating, dehydration, fractionation, stabilization, and hydrocarbon recovery systems.
- Size and specify mechanical equipment, piping, rotating equipment (compressors, pumps, motors), relief devices, and control systems per design requirements.
- Interpret and design PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, isometrics, and piping plans.
- Support midstream gas gathering and processing operations including compression, glycol and desiccant dehydration, amine systems, NGL recovery, and condensate stabilization.
- Ensure compliance with API, ASME, NFPA, NACE, DOT, and company standards.
- Collaborate with operations, safety, environmental, construction, commercial teams, ROW/land, and third-party contractors.
- Support field activities, including construction walkdowns, commissioning, equipment troubleshooting, and operational readiness checks.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, operational flexibility, and plant capacity.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to operations and junior engineering staff.
Qualifications
- BS in Chemical Engineering from a 4-year accredited university.
- 5–10 years of experience as a process engineer, project engineer, or Process/Project Engineer with exposure to natural gas processing, cryogenic gas plants, amine treating, fractionation, or related midstream systems.
- Experience executing projects (preferably from engineering firms or EPC organizations is a plus).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%, including field and plant site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in natural gas processing (cryogenic facilities, amine, fractionation, dehydration, compression).
- Experience with acid gas handling, rotating equipment, and pipeline hydraulics.
- Proficiency in process simulation tools such as HYSYS, ProMax, and experience with pipeline modeling.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Project or other scheduling tools.
- Strong experience in PSM-regulated facilities.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to work in plant environments with varying climate conditions.
- Capability to work in close quarters and perform activities such as kneeling, squatting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Must comply with all PPE requirements.
