Position: Industrial Engineering Specialist - Advanced Manufacturing
Location: Garrett, IN
The Industrial Engineering Specialist plays a key role in driving efficiency, productivity, and process optimization across manufacturing operations. This role supports the development and implementation of industrial engineering methods, time studies, line balancing, and process flow improvements that enable high-quality, cost-effective production.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of industrial engineering principles with hands-on shop-floor experience to bridge the gap between engineering strategy and operational execution.
What you'll do:
- Conduct time studies, work measurement, and capacity analyses to establish labor standards and optimize productivity.
- Support line balancing and workstation design to maximize efficiency and ergonomics.
- Develop and maintain process flow diagrams, value stream maps, and layout planning for manufacturing areas.
- Assist in the implementation of lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, Kaizen, and waste elimination.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with engineering and operations to improve workflow, material handling, and process standardization.
- Create and update work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and visual management tools.
- Participate in capacity planning, equipment utilization analysis, and throughput optimization.
- Support cost-reduction projects through process redesign, labor optimization, and material flow improvements.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and ergonomic standards in all industrial engineering activities.
What you'll need:
- Associate’s degree in Industrial Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or process optimization.
- Experience with time studies, line balancing, and workflow analysis in a manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement tools.
- Proficiency with CAD software, process simulation tools, and industrial engineering analysis methods.
- Strong skills in Excel, data analysis, and production reporting systems.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering, operations, and quality teams.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Organized and proactive, capable of managing multiple improvement initiatives.
Bonus if you have:
- Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or Industrial Engineering methodologies.
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, electronics, or specialty manufacturing industries.
- Background in ergonomics, workplace design, and safety optimization.
