Hanto + Clarke is a commercial general contractor based in Pensacola, serving clients from south Alabama through Jacksonville. Our work includes healthcare, automotive dealerships, light industrial, and general commercial construction, both ground-up and renovation.

We’re looking for an experienced Estimator to join our preconstruction team. You’ll own pricing on assigned pursuits, from conceptual budgets through bid submission and handoff to operations.

OUR VALUES

Hanto + Clarke runs on four core values. In estimating, they look like this:

Humble. Owns the numbers, including the misses. Asks before assuming.
Hungry. Chases coverage and closes gaps before bid day, not after award.
People-Wise. Builds trust with trade partners, so they bid our work and pick up the phone.
Fun. Takes the work seriously, not themselves. A steady presence on bid day.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop conceptual and schematic budgets from program documents, early sketches, and partial drawing sets.
Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for negotiated and competitively bid work, including self-perform scopes.
Analyze and interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents.
Confirm subcontractor coverage by trade, follow up directly with trade partners to close gaps, and reconfirm coverage prior to bid day.
Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, design teams, and owners.
Prepare scope sheets and bid forms. Level proposals on a comparable basis and identify scope that falls between trades.
Document assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications. Maintain RFI and assumptions logs through the bid.
Receive and level bids, and propose markups, fee, and bond for final approval.
Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives during design.
Prepare handoff documentation on award and support the project team through buyout.
Maintain historical cost records, unit rates, and benchmarks to support future budgeting.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Three or more years of commercial construction estimating experience. Subcontractor-side estimating experience will be considered toward this requirement.
Demonstrated ability to price from a complete construction document set and to develop a credible budget from limited design information.
Working knowledge of scope boundaries between trades.
Proficiency with Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, Excel, and other industry-specific software.
Ability to manage multiple pursuits concurrently against established bid milestones.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background, drug, and driving-record screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Building Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
Experience in occupied healthcare construction.
Estimating experience on the Gulf Coast, with established relationships with local subcontractors and suppliers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Based in our Pensacola office, Monday through Friday, with additional hours around bid deadlines. Occasional jobsite visits involve active construction environments: uneven terrain, ladders, and required PPE.

BENEFITS

Base salary of $80,000–$100,000, depending on experience
Discretionary bonuses
Company-sponsored medical insurance
SIMPLE IRA with company match
Optional dental, vision, life, and disability coverage, paid pre-tax through payroll
Paid holidays and paid time off (PTO)
Professional development opportunities
